GRRM seemed genuinely surprised that there was, standing in front of him, an actual fan of Stannis.  And I quote:
“Stannis, huh?  You don’t meet many fans of Stannis.”
To which I replied with giddy fangirling all over the place.  I couldn’t contain myself, but I regret nothing.
“I know I know I know!  There aren’t many of us, we’re in the tiniest of minorities.  But we love our Stannis!”
As he was signing, his assistant looked at me and said, “Were you the person that shouted out his name last night?!”  (Meaning at the screening of Blackwater with GRRM, during the opening shot after the credits, someone in the audience actually shouted out “STANNIS!!!!”  They had quite literally stolen his name out of my mouth as I almost did the same thing.)
“No, but I almost WAS that person.  I was so excited when they did that!”
“But - but - he’s a lobster!”
I just laughed and said, “Come on now!  But he’s Stannis!  And he’s my favourite.”
The whole time this conversation went down, GRRM was just sitting there signing my book, giggling.  Giggling!  Probably at the absurdity of the conversation going on right in front of him.  I don’t even know.  I don’t even care.  I got my book signed by GRRM proclaiming my love of the rightful king of Westeros.
AND STANNIS STANS WE ARE UNIQUE!  OUR LOYALTY TO THE RIGHTFUL KING INTRIGUES EVEN GRRM HIMSELF!  BE PROUD!

I wonder if he did this to Robb Stark fans when he was signing their copies of A Clash of Kings… Sorry, couldn’t help but think it. D:

Who would inherit the North….

(Spoilers)

For all those doubting Rickon or Brans claim, remember this. It is believed by everyone south of the Neck that Sansa is the last living Stark. She only has claim after the death of Bran and Rickon. So for southerners, Sansa is heir. She is under the control of Littlefinger, and doing nothing of her own accord, but she is heir in the eyes of the Andal kings.

To the Mandery’s the Stark boys are still alive. Bran being lost to obscurity, or being a tree, isn’t fit, so the rightful lord of Winterfell is Rickon Stark. Davos is sent to find him, and Lord Mandery promises his backing and much of the north if Davos can install Rickon as Lord Stark of Winterfell. He is hiding on Skagos and we don’t have anymore information then that on him. If he’s a cannibal or not will probably depend on if he’s on a diet of unicorns or prey Shaggydog catches. Cannibal or no, he’s still first in line over Sansa, and the Stark the North will rally behind.

Then, you have Robb’s letter sent to Howland Reed. If Robb legitimized Jon, or gave inheritance to any of his men, those people would be heir to Winterfell and the North. As Jon’s fate is rather vague after ADWD it is hard to say what could happen, but Jon could side with Stannis which he would then give Jon or whoever Jon appoints Lord of Winterfell those rights.

I’m expressing an opinion of mine, Sansa will never hold the North. If she knew her brothers were alive, she would never take their rights from them. She might marry Harry the Heir, but she herself will never claim the North for the Arryns or the Starks.

(spoilers)

I have the right to voice my opinions, if you don’t like them, ignore them. If you agree you can like them. I’ll tag them how I please, and I’ll say what I want. Sansa is not Queen. She is not fit to rule. Bran and Rickon are questionable as well, but they have the claim so it doesn’t matter. Sansa is not the Queen in the North. She is not the Lord or Lady of Winterfell. She is a Stone right now. Nothing more.

Jon theory *Spoilers for those not caught up to ADWD*

Ok, this is going under the cut, but it’s a theory I had on a board earlier. It’s long, but might be worth it to read for some of you…

I understand…. *personal opinion*

The love for the phrase “Fire can not kill a Dragon”. But at this point people should have realized that Dany’s fireproof boddess is a thing of the past. GRRM has officially stated that her not becoming a crispy piece of bacon is a one time thing that isn’t a Targaryen super power.

Spoiler

This is backed up by Dany getting fried by Drogon’s fire in ADWD. She didn’t even get directly hit and her hair is gone and she’s burned all over her arms.

End Spoiler

I like Dany’s spitfire comments as much as the next guy, but this one is growing old, not strong.

"….let them grow up close as brothers, with only love between them"
Quick thoughts on Valyrian Steel…

It’s Dragon Steel.

It can kill/fight off the wights and White Walkers.

It is forged through magic, particularly Dragon Blood magic.

Lastly, a new sword forged from Daenerys’s dragons may be made before the end of the series.

Spoilery, on Jon and Dany maybe, deals with Quarth Prophecy

So I was thinking about what Dany heard in Quarth. The prophecies given to her. You know the ones she’s flippin out about all the time in her head.

Three fires must you light: one for life and one for death and one to love…

Three mounts must you ride: one to bed and one to dread and one to love…

Three treasons will you know: once for blood and once for gold and once for love…

I’m on Dance with Dragons (spoilery possibly) and I’m reading the part where Melisandre is talking to Jon about helping Arya, the fake one. All he needs to do is some weird thing with her. The more I read Dany’s prophecy, the more I’m reminded of Jon’s story, too.

Jon lit the fire that burned his hand to save Mormont and himself from the wight: one for life.

If he lights some fire with Melisandre it will surly only bring about something bad.

And once for love, which could elude to him eventually doing something that saves one of the Stark children.

As for the others I’m still working them out. I’m thinking only the part I laid out about could work for Jon though.

I just thought I’d put down an idea.

PS I really hope I’m wrong and Jon doesn’t do anything dirty with Melisandre, I think she’s an agent of the Great Other and is fashioning Stannis as her anti-Azor Ahai.

Day 30 ~ Favorite book from the Series and favorite episode from the show

So at last I’m done. Challenge complete. With this I have completed the Song of Ice and Fire thirty day challange. It’s been a blast. Hopefully I can keep making posts that people like about the series or just some of the other stuff I like.

I wish I could answer this after A Dream of Spring, but I’d need a time machine. So far my favorite completed book is A Storm of Swords. I’m currently reading A Dance with Dragons so I don’t want to say it’s my favorite, but it probably will be. Until Winds of Winter and A Dream of Spring.

As for the tv series…… I don’t know. I think I have to go with Fire and Blood. The episode after Ned’s false confession on the Sept of Baelor is one that really sets the stage for season 2. Some of the best moments with characters are when they learn he’s been beheaded. I’m not sure if Jon’s scene with Aemon is in this episode, but it was one of my favorite moments when I first watch the series and still is now.

So there. My favorite book and episode. Hope you enjoyed the challenge.

As I read A Dance with Dragons….

Spoilery

I get to the second Jon “chapter”, where he goes over having Gilly take the prince south, sending Sam to be a maester, and re-manning Icemark and Greyguard I have to say I’m pleased.

While Janos Slynt gets all high and mighty, refusing command that he was lucky to get with “you can stick it up your barstard’s arse” I was beginning to wonder how Jon was going to handle the situation. If he didn’t make Slynt obey he would lose respect and legitimacy with his Brothers.

Then he decides to hang him, and all I could do was smile. “that’ll show them not to fuck with, Jon, and obey”. But then, it got better he changed his mind and called for a chopping block.

He beheaded Slynt in front of all his Brothers’ like a Stark of Winterfell, like his father, Eddard Stark, and like a Lord Commander of the Night’s Watch.

Jon Snow is my favorite character.
